I have around 1300 square feet of tile in the downstairs of my house. I bought a Bissell Flip It. It vacuums then you flip it over and it mops. I really like it. The cons are that I only use it every other time because the body of it is too bulky to get up under everything. So in between I dust mop then use the regular mop. I sometimes think it would have been just as good to have one of those steam mops because most of them are so slim that they go right underneath everything. The Bissell Flip it is a pretty good little gadget all in all. If you think you might want a steam mop, check customer satisfaction as I have heard of them just spray water and don’t really get that hot. I bought the Bissell because the customer ratings were good.

Oh. I thought you meant type of mop but reading the other answers I’m thinking maybe you are aking about cleaning solutions……I use the solution that goes in my Flip It when I use it and I use Orange Pine Sol when I use my rag mop.

I have 2 mops I use on my floors, depending on how dirty they are and how much time and energy I have. For quick cleans, where the floor isn’t too dirty, I use a Swiffer Wet Jet. It does a good job. This is what I use most of the time.

When I do a deeper clean, I use a Libman wonder mop and a bucket of Pine-Sol. If you don’t like the smell of Pine-Sol, use Mr. Clean or Lysol. This does a great job. It’s not hard to use at all. My family really notices when I use this method.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!

Someone asked a similar question at Scott Common Sense and the consensus seems to be that bleach diluted in water does the best job.

One should never use Pine Sol on ceramic tiles, thou it does smell fantastic it’s not a good idea! What these products do is stain the grout. It becomes discolored and start to chip. Others say vinegar… not good! The only thing that will clean your tiles without harming the grout is ammonia! I recommend Parsons.

If you’re looking for a good green cleaner that doesn’t have toxic chemicals, you might want to try method squirt + mop hard floor cleaner. It seems to have gotten great customer reviews on Amazon and it’s better for you and the environment than most others.
