Quick Action on Carpet Remediation After Frozen Pipes Burst Can Save Homeowners Thousands
Littleton, CO (PRWEB) January 12, 2011
When Colorado winter weather swings wildly from freezing and sub-zero temperatures overnight to nearly balmy conditions mid-day, the risk is high that plumbing pipes exposed to these fluctuations will burst, and when that happens significant property damage is often the result. Calls to a plumber are inevitable, of course, and Denver carpet cleaning specialist Phil Dreessen says a quick response to water remediation and carpet restoration will save homeowners thousands of dollars in replacement costs.
“After calling the plumber and getting the pipes fixed, the next call should involve saving carpets from water damage,” says Dreessen, owner of A Personal Touch, a carpet and home cleaning service firm. “Carpeting is one of the most valuable assets in any home, and quick action after flooding will return the carpets to pristine shape and restore them to last the remainder of the 20 to 25 years the manufacturer intended. All too often we are called out days or weeks after the damage has been done and by then the carpet is ruined and needs to be replaced. In most cases, rapid remediation can save the carpet for years of beauty.”
Pipes don’t burst when they freeze, but rather when they are frozen and thaw quickly, and this can happen to pipes that have survived many winters and anywhere in the home, says Dreessen. This occurred over the New Year’s Day weekend when Denver-area temperatures plummeted to around zero during the nights of Dec. 31st and Jan.1, and then pushed over the freezing mark by Sunday Jan. 2nd. Bursting pipes were reported all over the metro area as the thaw set in, according to numerous news and weather reports. Another blast of arctic air is expected from Jan. 9th-13th, with yet another thaw to the mid-40s throughout the rest of the week.
“January and February are tough on pipes what with all the hard freezes and quick thaws,” says Dreessen. “We’re busy saving potentially damaged carpets every year at this time.”
A Personal Touch performs emergency containment of water, keeping the water-logged carpet area to a minimum if acted on quickly, then water extraction, carpet drying, cleaning and re-humidification. The company also contracts with reliable partners in the home remodeling business and can assist homeowners with structural repairs and reconstruction should the damage go beyond the carpets.
“Broken pipes with water damage to carpets and flooring is certainly no picnic and it can happen to anyone at any time during the winter,” says Dreessen. “But it doesn’t have to be a major expense. Our experience is that most carpeting, even the most expensive and including valuable oriental rugs, can be saved and restored to their pre-flood beauty if homeowners experiencing broken plumbing take action right away. Believe me, remediation and restoration is a lot less expensive and time-consuming than replacing the carpets and dealing with insurance companies.”
A Personal Touch has been serving the Denver metro area for more than 30 years, with certified technicians highly trained in carpet and upholstery cleaning and repairing, as well as tile and grout cleaning, air duct cleaning, and bedbug eradication.
